Day 19: 15. Zipper

“Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
My, oh, my, what a wonderful day
Plenty of sunshine headin’ my way
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay!”

-James Baskett

Instead of reiterating the fastening properties of a zipper, let’s focus on the action of zipping. Zipping can be alluded to speed or the action of zipping up an item that has a zipper fixture. What I found interesting is how the word ‘zip’ used in the aforementioned song is a positive connotation and it is used as an exclamation for happiness. Just because a topic can be understood in a literal way, does not mean that it cannot be challenged otherwise. When I thought about the word of zipper, I wanted to focus on a scene where a zipper could be used to divide a picture plane.

A zipper is considered as a component of a sewing kit so I decided to showcase a few spools of thread as well. When a zipper is unzipped, I feel that it has some positive connotations much like the song. The bright colors signify warmth and happiness while the zipper divides the picture plane. The stage for the setup of the photo resemble fluffy, blue clouds which further instigates a “zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay” in this context.

This topic is completed: 15. Zipper
